Samvaad 2020
“It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it”
-Joseph Joubert
The fourth edition of much acclaimed inter-collegiate debate competition “Samvaad 2020” was jointly organized by the Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues Institute of Technology and Agnel School of Law on 17th and 18th of January 2020. The venue for the competition was Agnel Vashi Campus. The unique quotient of the competition was that of Modified Oxford Style format which was adopted in this fourth edition. The participation was open for both engineering and law colleges in Mumbai, and we received overwhelming response from colleges this year. The participation was in more numbers than the previous editions. The competition was presided over by esteemed judges which included Dr. Prof. Rashmi Ozza, the Dean of Interdisciplinary Studies and Professor of Law Department, University of Mumbai (Fort Campus) for the Final round of the competition. We were fortunate to have her in our presence, her address to the audience was very inspiring and valuable indeed. The Semi-Final Round was judged by Adv. Alok Mishra (Bombay High Court) and Adv. Vivek Salunkhe (Bombay High Court) and the Preliminary Round was judged by faculty members from both the colleges. This debate was one of its kind as both engineering and law students were involved. In the finale as the debate competition came alive, a volley of questions were asked, inviting more views and opinions which resulted in debate becoming an informative session for the spectators as well. Overall fourth edition was as successful as the earlier ones in every aspect we could have expected. It was the result of many days of hard work put into by the organizing committee of both colleges. Also it would not have been possible without constant guidance and support from our professors and our respected Principals of both the colleges.
